What the Culinary Artist Does

Prepare nutrient-dense lunches for approximately 12 children per day

Prepare well-balanced, wholesome snacks

Work primarily with fresh, organic ingredients

Well balanced and knowledgeable about Nordic and Mediterranean Diet Lifestyles

Design well balanced and seasonally influenced weekly menus

Schedule & Structure

This is anticipated to be a part-time role with estimated 15-20 hours per week, with meal preparation occurring on program days during morning hours.

​​Anticipated working hours will most likely be 9am - 11:30am and additional allotted hours each week for dedicated time to design menus and grocery shop. Ideally Fridays will be a longer day to prepare Breakfasts & Snacks ahead of time for the week ahead.

Exact scheduling will be discussed with candidates who align with our vision and values.

Compensation is based on experience, with room for bonuses and raises based on performance.

Employment Classification & Contract Options
Wildwood Park Discovery School anticipates this position to be a part-time W-2 role within our school community.
However, we are also open to working with self-employed, independent Culinary Artists on a 1099 contract basis, provided all legal and professional requirements for independent contractor status are met and clearly documented in a written agreement.
For 1099 Independent Contractors
To be considered as a 1099 contractor, individuals must:

Operate as a self-employed business (sole proprietor or registered business entity)

Provide a current business license (as applicable)

Carry appropriate general liability insurance

Maintain the ability to work independently and offer services to other clients

Operate under a clearly defined contract outlining scope of work, deliverables, and compensation

Invoice for services rendered

Retain control over methods, workflow, and culinary processes within agreed-upon standards
All contractor relationships must meet IRS and Washington State independent contractor guidelines and will be evaluated accordingly to ensure proper classification and compliance.

FAQ
Do I need formal culinary training?
No — As formal culinary training is encouraged, it is not a requirement at this time. We view lived experience, passion, and alignment matter most.
Will I work directly with children?
No — This role focuses on meal and snack preparation, children may be present but your time will not be focused in care for the children.
Is creativity encouraged?
Yes — seasonal creativity is welcomed and valued.

​Are ingredients provided?
Yes — As part of the Culinary Artist role, responsibilities include planning weekly menus and shopping for and ordering groceries with an emphasis on fresh, organic, whole foods. An approved weekly budget will be provided, along with a company card for in-person grocery purchases. Items that are best ordered for delivery will be placed by the Program Director.
